Dear fellow Rotary leaders:
As we embark on a new year of service, let us take the opportunity to reflect upon the gift of our membership in Rotary.
As club and district leaders, you have such an important role to play. You can do so much to help create club experiences that are welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable for each and every member – and you can extend that same warmth and belonging to every participant who wishes to engage with our clubs.
Over and over our surveys find that member comfort and care is the single greatest driver of member satisfaction and our most powerful tool in driving members retention. So, we need to put a special emphasis on membership care and belonging. And that work begins with listening. We need to understand why our members took the big leap and joined us – and we need to know what they expect from us. What do they want out of their Rotary involvement and what we can do to help them get more out of their Rotary experience?
We all feel the impact that Rotary service and Rotary values have on us ... now it’s our opportunity to share that feeling with others. This is a year to Imagine Rotary by envisioning a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing we can make a difference. We don’t imagine yesterday, we imagine tomorrow.
We imagine a world without polio, with clean water for everyone. We imagine a world free of disease and where every child learns to read. We imagine kindness, hope, love, and peace. Each of you has assumed important responsibilities as a member of Rotary and I thank you for your hard work. You have made a commitment to help grow Rotary, to adapt to the digital future and to make Rotary more appealing to future generations.
Your good work will help us serve our communities and help Rotary thrive so we can Imagine Rotary.
Warmest regards,
Jennifer Jones

Dear Friends,
Heartiest Congratulations & a very warm welcome to a new and expectant RY 22-23. Covid Pandemic had not only impacted our personal lives but our Rotary as well. We have recuperated from it and as it’s always said, ‘Create challenges into opportunities’, very effectively we supported the community in many ways by doing many Global Grant projects. I would like to compliment each one of you, for putting in all your efforts in the hour of crisis and making a huge difference in the lives of people.
I must say that we were very fortunate to host all the events/training sessions physically and had an overwhelming response for the same. I want to thank all the club leaders and their teams for joining in large numbers and supporting us.
RY 22-23 is going to be a Historic year! For the first time in the History of Rotary International, we will be having a Lady as an RI President!
RI President Jennifer Jones will be leading our esteemed Organisation. It is going to be a great year and as a tribute to her leadership & also respect to Women Power, we have to put our best foot forward and work towards increase in Lady Members in our district. RI President Jennifer Jones has given this thought provoking theme “Imagine Rotary” and if we actually start imagining Rotary and the opportunities it gives us to serve the community, so many wonderful ideas, themes can be thought of & manifested too. She has also promoted the wonderful concept of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. This describes policies and programs that promote the representation and participation of different groups of individuals, including people of different ages, races and ethnicities, abilities and disabilities, genders, religions, cultures and sexual orientations.
We all have joined Rotary because someone had invited us to be a part of this wonderful organisation. Now, it is the moral responsibility of each one of us, to invite at least one member to our club, motivate and engage them in our activities so that they are assimilated well.
We are DOING GOOD IN THE WORLD through The Rotary Foundation and I am glad that our District has a strong Participation in Rotary Foundation Programs. We have consistently been amongst the Top 10 Contributing Districts of the World and our Participation in Global Grants is extraordinary. New norms for Global Grants has made it further essential that we contribute more and more to TRF so that we can do Bigger, Better, Bolder and Long-term Impact Creating Sustainable Projects through Global Grants. We also need to request & motivate our Non-Rotarian friends to contribute to TRF as this will help us to serve our Community in a better way and also will
give them an opportunity to know Rotary & feel blessed by doing their bit for the community at large.
Let’s work together towards the betterment of the society & achieve the PINNACLE of Success for our Clubs and RID 3131. DELIVER HAPPINESS, SPREAD SMILES & ENJOY ROTARY by IMAGINING Rotary & fulfilling OUR dreams FOR the community.
Remember “TOGETHER WE CAN AND TOGETHER WE WILL”.

Dear Rotarians and Ann’s,
Season’s greetings to you all.
As I take on the role of President of the very Prestigious ROTARY CLUB OF PUNE SOUTH, I do so with great pride, immense pleasure and belief that it is truly a privilege for me to lead this club.
The theme of the Rotary International for this year is “IMAGINE ROTARY” where the expectation and commitment is to “Imagine, a world that deserves our best where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.”
We now come together and continue to be members of a club where “SERVICE BEFORE SELF” is the motto, always supporting each other, our local communities and the world. The one thing about the members of our club, when challenged with a task, we work together to accomplish the task. I am so very proud of all our club’s accomplishment over the years, and more so for the Club to be a trend setter and role model for other clubs to emulate.
Our club will be working on all the focus areas starting with Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Education and Literacy along with Economic and Community Development, Environment,Water Harvesting and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health and Disease Prevention.
Needless to say that ROTARY CLUB OF PUNE SOUTH has a rich cultural heritage and the club is full of talented singers, artists, good orators and organizers. Therefore, the entertainment programmes and festivals will be conducted and celebrated as usual in a festive atmosphere with aplomb and style.
I would like to appreciate the efforts taken by Bulletin Committee Chairperson Rtn Mridula Ghodke and the bulletin team for compilation of this bulletin.
Special thanks to PP Rtn Sudhir Waghmare for his support to the bulletin by way of sponsoring the Bulletin.
Therefore, I request you all to join hands to work with me as a team, as I look forward for your wholehearted participation, support and good wishes.
Rtn Sanjeev Ogale
President (2022-2023)
Rotary Club of Pune South, RID 3131
Greetings Rotarians......
The chairperson of bulletin committee for the year 2022-23 Rtn. Mridula’s request cum order to write about functioning of Rotary when I joined and what has changed in last four decades made me wade through history pages mostly in memory. I wondered what would interest the young members. I thought let me write about the way meetings were conducted in our club.
I was inducted into Rotary on 17th February 1980. During last 42 years I have attended over 80% of meetings in our club. Lot of changes have taken place. The rules change as per circumstances. I do not consider change as good or bad. You have to adjust to the changing circumstances. How meetings were conducted about 40/45 years ago will be interesting reading.
Every Tuesday our weekly meeting would take place at IMA Hall, Tilak Road between 7 to 8.30 pm. IMA Hall was an old building and has lot off open space around it. at the entrance there was a staircase and adjacent to it was a balcony type space of but 20’ X 10’ on both side of the space were two doors for entry into main hall. Between the two doors a table was put. At about 6.45 pm the president, executive secretary, Sergeant at arms, member whose turn it was of fellowship with his Ann, fellowship chairman would be ready to welcome. Attendance register and register of visiting Rotarian with visiting member cards would be placed on the table. At about 5 minutes to 7 pm members used to come one by one. Majority of members used to come on foot or on Scooter. Before entering the hall members used to first sign the attendance register. The fellowship chairman used to welcome everyone with special attendance to visiting Rotarian. Rotarian of other club was required to fill visiting card with his name, classification, his club name. at the beginning of meeting all visiting cards would be sent to secretary for his signature. The president then used to welcome visiting members and hand over the card which he has to give in his own club at proof of week.
On the back side of the hall there used to be a large table for serving fellowship. Fellowship was mainly home cooked. Plates, cups, bowls, dishes all crockery was owned by the club. The membership was about 70. 50 Rotarians and 20 Anns was average attendance for every meeting. Hall used to be full at 7.15 pm. Fellowship time was really enjoyable full of fun and exchange of thoughts. At 7.20 bell would ring to suggest to stop the serving of food. At 7.25 was second bell time was also time to wind up fellowship. Those who have not not finished their dishes sued to go out of the hall. The front side entry door used to be closed and president and secretary used to occupy their seat. One by one all members sued to be in the chair before final bell rings at 7.30 pm. Meeting would start at sharp 7.30 with national anthem. At 7.45 pm the attendance register used to be closed. Any body coming after that was treated as absent. Nobody used to leave the meeting before 8.30 unless for some very urgent reason. During the meeting it was pindrop attention to the proceeding. There was hardly any disturbance on account of patter amongst members. Most meetings used to close at 8.30. Within 5 minutes except late comers enjoying fellowship the hall used to be empty. Next day President or attendance committee chairman used to call the members who were absent to enquire why he could not attend. Club used to send “We missed you card”If any member did not attend 3 meetings consecutively. Attendance was very strict.
Gradually the rules of attendance were relaxed. If attendance is good then the meetings also become lively. Even today we experience it. But that is now a matter of bygone era.
I hope the readers find it interesting. If so, I may write about fellowship in those days.
